I did not actually spend a great deal of time in the city of Barcelona. I was booked on a tour out into the Montserrat mountains, to see the monastery and the basilica.
You travel up a narrow switchback in order to get to the monastery, but even in the mountains, you can always go higher up…
That is a funicular track that goes the rest of the way to the top, if you feel the need. Look closely, there’s a green trolly car on its way up.
I was kinda good with being only 3/4 of the way up the mountain, and walked through the basilica. Unfortunately, the basilica was full of people just like me, and any picture I wanted to take just ended up being a picture of tourists standing around an unspecified object in a church. But here’s a decent outdoor shot.
There are a lot of hiking trails along the side of the mountain, your guess is as good as mine as to whether it’s worth the effort to get to these places…
This is the last stop on my tour of the Iberian peninsula. From here, we are at sea one day and then it’s disembarkment day in Italy. By Saturday I’ll be in Rome…
